Frequently Asked Questions
What is play therapy?

Play Therapy is not the same as regular, everyday play. It is a systematic and therapeutic approach by licensed mental health providers with extensive training, supervision, and
education in Play Therapy. Children have to be approached and understood from a developmental perspective. They are not just miniature adults. Their experiences are
not communicated by talking through their problems the way an adult would communicate their experiences. Instead, children often communicate through play. Play
therapy is a way of facilitating a child’s expression and exploration of their emotional world. The natural medium of a child’s expression and communication is through play and activity. If we try to restrict children to verbal expression, it places a barrier on them and their expression, because they often do not know how to express themselves well through words. For example, instead of verbalizing thoughts and feelings, play therapy allows a child to bury things in the sand, shoot the dragon, and play out the challenges they are experiencing.

What is your wait time?

Our scheduling process is different from most agencies as we offer set time slots so you can plan on the same time each week. In addition, each therapist has a different set of
what funding sources they are able to take. Due to these variables, the wait time can vary greatly based on your funding source and availability to take a set time. After
school times have such a high demand that those times (3pm and later) are often out several months, while other times may be available within a few weeks. Please call us
during business hours and we can give you our best estimate based on your criteria.

What insurances do you take?

As an agency, we are able to take many different insurances, however each therapist has a different set of insurances they are paneled with. A few of our most common
insurances that all our therapists can take are listed below. For any other insurances or specific questions, please call us during business hours and we’ll be happy to give you
more information.

  • Select Health (some plans are excluded)
  • United
  • UMR
  • PEHP
How do I get on the wait list?

Under “Services” go to our “Therapy” page and click the “Intake” button. Fill out your information and submit the form. You will be contacted based on that information when there is a time slot available for you.

Do you have a sliding scale? How do I apply?

We do have limited grant funding available for those who qualify. If you are approved for a grant it will cover 20 sessions with a co-pay of $5, $10, or $15 based on eligibility
criteria. The grants do require proof of income for the household and verification of current address. To apply, please talk with the front desk for a link to our screening
questionnaire.

What types of therapy do you offer?

and input. Listed below are some of the modalities offered:
